Victory in Europe (or VE) Day is celebrated on the 8th of May and recognises the acceptance by allies of Germany’s surrender during WWII on a national day of remembrance; maybe you should do something for your community. Such as litter-picking!
A litter-picking is being held in the Little Sutton community centre (CH66 1QQ) on Saturday, the 3rd of May, from 10am to 12am. The community clean-up is being hosted by PALS, or Positive Action for Little Sutton. PALS was set up 9 years ago by a group of local residents (now having over 5000 members in their Facebook group!) with the intention of low-cost activities so as to make work and personal life better throughout the village. They work closely with other local groups, such as the Little Sutton Royal British Legion Club, who had requested they decorate to celebrate VE Day, leading the cleanup. Although litter collection isn’t an uncommon activity within the group, as they tend to gather every other month (March to November), as well as making sure the streets are clean for many other holidays, like Remembrance Day.
“This is a great reason to come along for a first-time litter-picking if you’re looking for a way to make a difference.”
Chairman of PALS - Stephen Hewitt
If you’re in the spirit to help your community in Little Sutton, I highly encourage you to attend. With expected temperatures of 16˚C and refreshments after the waste collection, locals attending hope to encourage a new wave of mixed generations. After all, small events such as these contribute positively to securing help on other projects.
To join in, please just turn up on the day.
