Meet & 2 Veg is a charity who offers lunch to the seniors of Ellesmere Port, and makes an opportunity for them to make friends and create life-long relationships. The monthly occasion (which is supported by many volunteers, Humpty Dumpty's at Ellesmere Port Market, the Port Grocery, the PCSO, local councillor and ASDA community champion) is something that "brings the community together". They care for many who attend, like people with dementia and health issues. The diners discussed topics about the local area with me and were very welcoming. The volunteers sat with the many and had conversations; making them feel "good". The monthly get-together offers free food, but you can also donate at the end to help with the renting of the space and insurance.
At the meal I had attended, the guests were served the starter of crackers with cheese, pâté and salad followed by cooked fish, mash and peas with tartare sauce and the best part, meringue with ice cream and fruit for pudding. The 31 diners enjoyed their food, explaining how the "flavouring was amazing". One gentleman, who has been coming for eight years, told me that this event is "a great time, and really brings them all together". After they ate the scrumptious lunch, the volunteers had drawn a free raffle where the people of Ellesmere Port were able to win a variety of things. To conclude February's Meet & 2 Veg Event, the volunteers had surprised those whose birthday it was with presents and birthday cards.
The group had stated that if you were an interested party, to contact them via their Facebook group 'Meet & 2 Veg'.
